Our Furry Family
Our team members truly love and care for animals, not only at work, but also at home. In honor of National Pet Day, we’re sharing our team’s pets and their stories.
Dr. VanDeLeest, Veterinarian
Annie is my 4 legged red dog that was found as a stray after being hit by a car. Due to her accident, she is down to 3 legs only! She has the goofiest personality and wants to kiss everyone.
Rosie is my 9.5 year old yellow lab that I adopted from Purdue at the end of my first year in vet school. Food is life for Rosie, just like any other lab, and she loves to snuggle with anyone who will curl up with her. She doesn’t give kisses but likes to give hugs.
Elby is my 5 year old orange female cat. She was a stray kitten that I adopted in my final year of vet school. She was brought in by a Good Samaritan when she had an eye infection in both eyes and an injury to the tip of her tail. She is a purring machine and loves toys with feathers.

Luna is a 9 year old spayed husky/collie mix. We did a DNA blood test at FSAC to find out her genetic makeup (it also tests for certain genetic diseases!). I adopted her from Northern Lights Sled Dog Rescue- which is based out of Greenwood. She’s my princess 🙂
I take her in to see our vets often, and from one of these visits, Dr. VanDeLeest referred us to a specialist – she had hepatocellular carcinoma, CANCER. Fortunately, they were able to completely remove the tumor and she’s doing great today! I advocate for pet insurance!

This is Dr. Spencer Reid! (Or Spencer for short.) He is a 2 year old “Russian White” which, I don’t know if that is a real breed, so he is a shorthair. He loves Friskies treats, cuddling on soft blankets, and looking out the window for birds.
Toni Malone, Lead Veterinary Technician
5 month old, Simba, undetermined breed and his 3 year old sister, Jasmine, a Shih Tzu Terrier mix.
“The best thing about having a little big brother is the free cushion for naps.” -Jasmine 🐶
Ica Hyatt, Veterinary Assistant
Hercules, my almost 3 year old in August, domestic long hair loves walks on her harness and leash and always waits in the window for me to get home from work. Instantly when I get home and I sit down she’s in my lap making biscuits and purring! She’s not only my fur baby, but my emotional support animal who lets me rant until my face is blue. She is the sunshine of my life!

I have two black cats named Drizzt and Erevis. Drizzt is 2 and a half, Erevis is three. I got them a week apart from each other. When they first met, they spent thirty whole, uninterrupted minutes wrestling and playing – These two boys are now bonded best friends! Drizzt (pronounced Drits) and Erevis are both named after Dungeon and Dragons fantasy book characters, and are both mischievous little gremlins.
Arlo is our number one good boy! He’s a border collie mix, and we got him from the Mega Adoption Event at the fairgrounds two years ago. He’s around seven, but we don’t really know. Arlo loves snow, long walks, and squeaky plushies. Arlo also likes watching documentaries with his dad, which is great because they make me fall asleep.
Drizzt is in love with Arlo, and will try to lay on the dog bed with him, snuggle, and groom him. Arlo HATES it, and will get up and walk away, or look at us pitifully. We wish he would just decide to like the cats.
One time, the cats must have gotten into the bread in the kitchen. We woke up to Arlo holding a loaf of bread in between his paws. We took the bread from him and saw all these little cat teeth marks. Arlo must have found them being bad, and took the bread from them, but he didn’t eat it! He’s such a goody two shoes.

My old man, Brando, will be 10 years old later this year! I got him from a family giving away puppies on Craigslist during my last semester of college. He’s a Border Collie/Golden Retriever mix who is mostly black, but will sometimes have red tufts of fur that grow out and show in the sun. He’s a smart sweetheart and loves to make humans laugh. More than anything, he just wants to be around me! Brando is the epitome of (wo)man’s best friend.
I also have my boyfriend’s old lady, Kilo. She’s 10 years old too and a white bully breed mix. People often say she looks like Petey, the dog from ‘Little Rascals’. Kilo is a VERY talkative girl, but quickly settles into lazy mode when given a blanket to lay on. She was found on the streets in Muncie, IN and was so sweet from the start. Her wiggle butt wins everyone over!
Last, but not least, is Yogi the dogi! Yogi is new to my pack, a street dog that wandered up to my boyfriend’s brother back in November, he’s about 1.5 years old and a beautiful brownish-grey color that changes with the light. He’s the ultimate noodle dog and loves to stay warm by cuddling with his fellow short-haired sister, Kilo. Being the youngest pup, Yogi’s much rowdier than my other two lazy dogs, but is quickly learning his manners.
